Subject: [DeTomaso] NPC - Interesting Rally Racer Story
So I am working along the road of my farm earlier today with my new
excavator that was just delivered to me today. Keep in mind that this is a
private road out in the middle of nowhere.
A couple of older ladies (one of them was 91) pass by & we all wave at each
other. A little later on as they come back to leave, they stop to ask about
some of my neighbors. We end up talking about my farm, my family and to drop
by to visit when our house is finished being built.
It ends up that she used to live at the end of the road and that her son is
a famous rally car driver. She asks me if I have ever heard of Ken Block,
her son! Have I? Subaru in the snow, Ford at an airport, Ford in LA, Ford in
Egypt (she corrects me ... Dubai)
She enjoyed talking to me so much that she gets out of her car & says she
has a little present for me. From the back seat she pulls out a hardcover
book called "Blast" that is autographed by Ken Block & hands that to me.
I am in awe, meeting interesting people out in the middle of nowhere...
& now I really hope that she comes back sometime with her son in tow, maybe
I'll even get the drifting ride of my life!

Hey Joe,
Unfortunately your renewal comes at a time when we have recently elected a new president to the Pantera Owners Club of America. This man promises to bring POCA into the 21st century, an issue that is very badly needed, with a new website, multiple Fun Rallys, more transparency with club finances and decision-making and many other improvements to an aging and stubbornboard of directors. This man has a good track record and impressive credentials and leads many of us to believe he can and will do what he says. Unfortunately, he has the polish and manners of Donald Trump and that has rubbed many the wrong way.
One new issue pertains exactly to your email which is an attempt to relocate the criticism and sourness so rampant on this forum by members instrumental in the growth and health of POCA to another area where new and returning members aren't so badly jaded by what they read on this forum.
As a member of this organization for longer than 30 years, I will tell you there is no better source of information on the car nor a better group of friends that you will meet than in POCA. If you own a De Tomaso, you simply must be a member of POCA as the help and information you will receive from its members is endless.
I would ask you at this time to renew and enjoy your membership. I would also ask that you don't get caught up or damaged by these growing pains that our organization is experiencing at this time. It WILL be resolved in the near future and will leave POCA stronger than ever.
I hope that you stay with us Joe. If there is anything that you need or information that would be helpful to you, please don't hesitate to plug into this forum or email me personally.Collectively, we are a wealth of knowledge that will make your DeTomaso ownership much easier and richer!

Great point Rob!!! Whenever I have people trying to change my mind on how I think on a particular issue, I automatically become weary. The hundred or so past emails seem to do nothing but try to change people's minds.
We all have different opinions. State them and move on. It's our duty to support our club and its board. If you don't like the way things are, run for office. But whatever you do, do it with civility!

Great point Rob!!! Whenever I have people trying to change my mind on
how I think on a particular issue, I automatically become weary. The
hundred or so past emails seem to do nothing but try to change people's
minds.
We all have different opinions. State them and move on. It's our duty
to support our club and its board. If you don't like the way things
are, run for office. But whatever you do, do it with civility!

All,A with Kurt's comments summing up the state of affairs nicely,
can
we all just please make these discussions be about the cars and

private emails and let's move on. Possibly the best outcome here is a

I suggest we have a Drive Your Pantera Day! Saturday was national 'Drive Your Woodie Day', but I was out driving my Pantera Saturday, so I drove my Woodie today.
Our Pantera drive was awesome! Team Pantera OC organized a drive to Fallbrook, CA to visit Dave and Linda Adler and enjoy their three deTomaso cars. Along the way, we drove through the Inland Empire and San Diego and picked up POCA members and cars along the way. We were 34 strong at the Adler's and again at lunch afterward.
It made me think, POCA needs a 'Drive Your Pantera Day!' The Woodie owners submit photos to our National magazine "Woodie Times" that includes their car and where they visited, and us Pantera drivers could submit them to Profiles! Here's a collection of photos from our Pantera Day! Hope you enjoy! (Actually, hope the photo goes through). Ask and I will forward the photo to you if it got axed. :-)

Will posted a link to the survey (whether purposely or accidentally I don't
know).
The link is at the very bottom of this post.
It says that the link is unique, but I was able to use it yesterday morning.
I hope that I didn't take somebody else's survey.

Hi Guys,
I started to fill out the POCA Direction Survey, but I can¹t.
Some of the questions are fine, and need to be asked. But some are designed
to support one viewpoint over another.
For example:
1. I fully support the direction the club is headed in under the new
President and the progressive BOD members who support moving the club
forward.
O Absolutely, the change was long over due. I can already see the
difference.
O Not at all, please stop improving things and leave it alone.
The responses can be interpreted thusly:
A. Rock on, you are awesome, and everyone else is an idiot.
B. I¹m stupid, and I like it that way.
Seriously?
How about?
C. I support the direction the club is headed, but the President is
alienating too many members and needs to tone down his message.
D. Why not have a free form text field and let the members write what they
want? It¹s not like we have billions of members and can¹t sort through
their responses.
Will.

An M6 screw has a core diameter of 5 mm. A 5 mm dia rod has an area of
19.6 mm2. An ordinare 8.8 grade screw has a yield strength of 640 N/mm2
and a tensile strength of 800 N/mm2. 19.6 x 640 N is 12544 N whis is a
little less than what a Pantera would require to be lifted in all. 19.6
x 800 is 15680 N which is enough with a margin.

Ok. Not sure about the physics of all of it, but if that's the case,
there are four of them.

That being said, I have sometimes wondered about the faith we put in
that 1/8" thick bearing retainer plate we secure with four six mm
diameter flathead screws. That seems like a weak link. Best not to think
about it to much I decided.
