[DeTomaso] Passenger Door Limit/Detent Links

Any one ever fiddled with the lower door hinge?
My passenger door does not stay open.  It  appears that the 2 links in the lower hinge are supposed to form a detent to hold the door?  My links are cut off and just hanging there at one end.  Hard to see what is happening in there.

Can I just cut the links apart and re-pin them?  or is something more involved?  It seems there must be some large amount of friction in the links to actually hold the door open.  Am I missing something here?
