Yes- I did this about 10 yrs ago, using a stock '87 Ford in-tank pump from the TBI Ford. Wrote an article about it in the POCA Newsletter (in the archives). I use the pump as an aux feed and for priming after sitting all winter. The advantages are far less noise from an electric pump and far less possibility of vapor lock since the entire fuel line is under pressure. And as you say, minimum exposed hoses.
