[DeTomaso] Front Bumper Tweak

FWIW, I agree with Julian- to get the chrome plated steel bumper hot enough to work the steel, you'll blue or destroy the original plating, So now you;ll need to find a plating shop that won't lose your reworked part. This will add to the complication & expense of doing this. Instead, I would take the bumper to an old time body shop and ask if their best body man can hammer-and-dolly the piece to your specs. Be prepared to visit several shops- many today are only bondo-shops and you won't find a body dolly anywhere around them.

Hi Julian,
The passenger side is noticeably different, and a bit ugly to me.
They are not stainless. I assume they are original early steel
bumpers, they don't look like pot metal?

Are these stainless? You will have to be careful not to 'blue' the
finish if so. If pot metal it's a crap shoot and dependent on quality.
Is it really discernible when mounted and is it important if it was
okay for the last 40 years? These cars have to have some character and
little idiosyncrasies to be semi original!

Mounting early bumpers and in one, the bottom part that the turn signal
mounts in tilts noticeably forward at the bottom. I want to straighten
it. I think I can heat the metal on each side of the bottom part, and
carefully bend the lower part back? This shows the difference between
the two bumpers and where I would apply heat, any suggestions?
