[DeTomaso] REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR RECOMMENDATIONS?

 Mike,This was an ammeter/battery problem not an alternator issue. Unless the battery is quite low the alternator will only put out whatever load is on the system regardless of maximum rating.

The resultant electrical fire at the ammeter started about two miles down the road. Disconnecting the alternator allowed the car to run another 50 miles or so before the ammeter fell apart and it had to be towed. 

100% owner-induced failure IMHO.
