[DeTomaso] REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR RECOMMENDATIONS?

There is such a thing as too much alternator.

A few months ago I witnessed an alternator swap. Inoperative 100A was replaced with a super duper 180 or 200 or something.

The resultant electrical fire at the ammeter started about two miles down the road. Disconnecting the alternator allowed the car to run another 50 miles or so before the ammeter fell apart and it had to be towed.

100% owner-induced failure IMHO.
