[DeTomaso] USA Pantera GTS

Ah... That would be 7005.

The advert listed it as a 1973.
7005 has a door jam date completion of 5/1974.
Maybe it got re-titled as a 1973 while in California, long ago.

I was searching by mileage (just within year 1973).
Silly me, believing in the facts stated in an auction.

The photos from the recent auction also are not current,
they are from the MotoExotica advert from 2016, apparently
with the MotoExotica watermark removed, or not present.
And I did not find the hidden registry watermark either.

Here is one more reason for adverts to include the VIN, (and use fresh photos),
as the indication they have nothing to hide. Yea I remember the Mecum auction,
as they frequently auction DeTomaso cars they may have done more harm to
their business reputation.

Naturally they can only go by what the seller is willing to state, so the
responsibility really falls on the selling owner, not Mecum.
But likely the Mecum reputation took a hit anyway.

The damage (pics in registry) is from around 1998, pics show damage still in 2012.

Thanks for refreshing my memory Mike,
I knew the registry had details, I just searched in the wrong year.

Chuck,

The low mileage GTS is a car you know well. It's the one that was rear ended and totaled when almost new, that sat around for 30
years before somebody restored it and then Mecum unscrupulously offered it at numerous auctions as a pristine, unmolested original
time warp car. The registry revealed the truth about it as there are lots of photos of it all smashed up. I think it sold eventually
for six figures (might have been a false sale) but then if it resold for only $55k, that's a really good deal.

Mike
