[DeTomaso] FW: Front Sway Bar Bracket broken

I've seen a couple of rear bar straps broken. This is the small strap thats welded to the lower rear a-arm. It cracks at one bolthole or weld, possibly due to running poly on the ends- even with only stock bars. If done, poly ends bind up as some compliance is needed on the bar ends. Either use rubber on the ends or best is a Sphere-ball on the end and poly in the middle for the pivot points. My 2 cents- J Deryke

Oops...
You didn't mention where the failure occurred. Just looking, I would say the weak spot is the transition from the bushing wrap and the flats for bolting to frame.
I would think this could be improved just using a custom washer that would hold the radius of that transition.
After making the attached sketch, I had a better thought to make the washer thicker with a stepped bore and use a recessed allen head Joe

Thanks for the input Mike,
I will have to do an upgrade I guess. But for now I happen to have an extra that came along with the one I broke. Some nice guy sent me several if you remember. Bud #3400 ( Drive it like there is no tomorrow -- for there may not be ! )

Bud,
This is a common occurrence. The inner front sway bar brackets are loaded more heavily than the others, and eventually one side breaks. This then negates the function of the swaybar.
The stock clamp is simply underdesigned for its role. All the vendors sell high bling machined billet aluminum sway bar brackets; although their intent is primarily cosmetic function, they are actually rather necessary precisely where you can't see them.....
