That's $9 per $1000 coverage

I'm paying about $5 at Parish, but the cars are stock.

I have had Hagerty since I purchased my car in 2006, and I told them it had modifications, including a 408 stroker, and my premium this year for an agreed value of $60,000 is $545 per year; the same as last year. I've had two claims, one for about $1,700.00 (caused by me) and the other for $4,000.000 (caused by a mechanic who trashed my car), and both were paid immediately with no problems and no increase in premiums.

I have to say I've never dealt with any insurance company which has taken better care of me.

Sincerely,

My prior insurer was American Classic, but I got comparative quotes from Hagerty, Heacock, Grundy and a couple others.

As with all insurers rates are dependent on their perceived risk; i.e. your ZIP code, your insurability & record, credit score etc.

I urge you to give them a call and find out for yourself, hopefully you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

What is BJ's insurance per $1000 value rate, and who was your prior insurer?

Asa Jay,

I think Michael Shortt already made an endorsement for the Barrett Jackson endorsed insurance, which is underwritten by Chartis. I would second that endorsement and for the last 3 years I have had 5 cars insured through them and halved my annual insurance bill to my prior provider. They truly are customer service oriented and a call or e-mail is usually responded to in less than 24 hours.

Well.... it would seem that Hagerty has some "feelers" into the DeTomaso email forum.

I got an unsolicited phone call from them today. The person who spoke with me had seen an email trail... and mentioned "Mike Drew." I don't think Mike was the source, but that was the clue they probably have eyes into this list. It's the -only- place I've made any comment, and as I recall... never mentioned their name, until now. Of course Mike Drew hit the nail on the head when he said I'd been "Hagerty'ed."

Anyway... they wanted to make sure I understood why the change was so big and wanted to ask me questions about the "modifications," probably to see if they could re-classify it as stock in order to reduce my yearly cost. Well, it seems 50 HP over stock may be the magic number (not to mention my other mods). There was no dispute that it classified as a modified vehicle.

Then he talked about possible rate reductions if I increased my deductible. Let's just say what was offered would have taken me 20 years to save in order to meet the deductible. Umm... oh heck, it was take $50 of the yearly rate if you go with a $1,000 deductible. Gee, really???? WOW! .... no thanks, I can do math in my head.

I think I'll just get quotes from some of the others insurance vendors. Since I know Hagerty will probably get a copy of this... um... yea... they need to offer me a sweeter deal than that.

    :)

Possibly. -that- as Mike pointed out, was the primary factor that increased the value. When I said the modified engine was maybe 50 HP more than stock, he said that qualified for "modified." And then there was the non-stock radiator, non-stock shocks...

That brings up an interesting question: how modified is modified? I’ve been with Hagerty since I bought the Pantera. The body is stock, but the engine, suspension, wheels/tires, seats, etc. are certainly not stock. Am I setting myself up for a denial of claim if something were to happen?

Don't tell me, let me guess. You got Hagerty'ed.

Hagerty hates modified cars. When I was shopping they told me my rate would be triple their normal rate just because I had a fire system and aftermarket seat belts--both things that would potentially reduce their exposure!

Shop around. I am with heacock and my rates are very reasonable. I just raised my coverage and costs increase was minimal.

Hey all,
I recently changed the policy on my Pantera. I'm still with the same company, but I increased the agreed value based on recent market conditions and on-line valuation tools. I also changed it from stock to modified.

The surprise in all this is that my cost for the policy more than tripled. I was a bit stunned when I figured it all out.

Have you reviewed -your- policy recently to make sure you are adequately covered?
