[DeTomaso] Oil Pressure Senders?

"The only problem with that is, the front of the block (including the oil 
filter adapter) sees pressure directly out of the pump, while the 'normal' 
position of the gauge sender sees pressure from the far end after all the 
lifters & bearings have been supplied. The results (with an accurate gauge) may 
be 30 psi higher at the front. So pressures off the filter housing will not

I hate to say Mr. Deryke is wrong, how about YMMV?

Here's my story . . . 

Rebuilt my Cleveland last year, with a ton of help from Dan Jones.  Dan saw a picture of my motor [1], with the oil sprayers for the valve springs and mentioned I might be losing oil pressure.  How much? I ask. Dan didn't have an exact answer, but told me pretty much the same story as Jack does above.  Well, I wanted numbers.

Before putting the lump back in the car, I installed a little manifold off the oil filter so I could run the Veglia gauge and a VDO mechanical gauge.  In addition, I wired the gauge with a switch so I could monitor oil pressure at the front and the back of the motor with the flip of a switch.  Ordered two new senders from NAPA (so I would have two senders exactly - Ed Zachary? [2] - the same. hahahha).  My parts order came in at NAPA and the two senders came in different boxes.  I just knew I get screwed again.

After a few tests and a lot of notes here is what I know:  NONE of the oil pressure senders matched any of the other senders.  ONE of the senders was "sort of close" to the VDO gauge at the same measuring point.  Oil pressure loss from the front port (by the oil filter) to the rear port = less than 1%. (Not more than one veglia needle width).  Oil pressure loss from the oil sprayers?  Less than 1%.

Conclusion: on my fresh motor, the oil pressure loss from front to rear was not enough to worry about.
