Andy - good background information, and thank you so much for taking the
time to send it. But, in truth, having found the two references I sent in
an earlier e-mail, and having seen the impact of catastrophic failures due
to corrosion and work-induced stresses, well, a little peace of mind is
worth a lot. Especially if it only involves baking a rim for a couple of
hours.

Did you have a chance to read the two articles I provided links to? With
your background I would like to hear your thoughts.

For what its worth, some years ago when I was working "hands on" with fast
jets, we had a mandated maintenance regime for the magnesium wheels. I
certainly remember careful inspection, touching up "furry" spots with
dichromate and paint, crack detection with dye penetrant and even x-ray.
However, no heat stress relieving - and these were wheels with 30+ years of
very hard use.

Each to his own of course, and I guess if it gives you peace of mind then
its worth it to you....

I mentioned in a previous posting that I was sending an e-mail to both
Halibrand and to a guy who was making Campy copies. Here is Halibrands
response. None the less, I will be stress relieving mine.

Hello Stephen,

Sorry, but we do not find any reference to such a procedure. I am not sure
who quoted that point, but our engineering does not show it as a procedure
in our files. Perhaps some other company made that quote.

Regards,

Richard

Good day to you. Your company is quoted as having, at some point,
recommended stress relieving cast magnesium rims every 10 years. The
recommendation is to heat to 375F for 2 hours and then slowly cooling. Does
your company recommend such a procedure for your Magnesium rims?
