[DeTomaso] update on clutch slave not compressing fully

Forest,
this would make sense to me if I had just done something with the master cyl, but it has been over 10 yrs since either the slave or master were removed or replaced.
Everything was fine until recently when suddenly one day I had no clutch play.
Actually on that day I drove the car, let my friend drive it around the block a few times, and when I drove it again the clutch felt different. So unless I didn't notice it for my first driving session it started quite suddenly. (Is the lesson don't let anyone drive your car?)
Jim

Sounds like the master cylinder piston is not returning all the way and allowing
the fluid back into the reservoir. Try loosening the bolts that hold the master
n and slip a couple washers in between the master and the mounting plate. If
his solves the problem then shorten the actuating rod some.
ood luck

The Maserati guy sells forged arms if you want a stronger one:

ack,
I removed the bellcrank arm to reposition it some years ago, but I don't think
hat will help here.
suspected the bellcrank arm was to be treated with respect-- that's why I
aven't gone gorilla trying to push the clevis pin out of it. :-)
haven't driven the car much at all since I discovered this no-play clutch
ituation because of what you describe with the throwout bearing-- I figured
hat's what was happening.
Thank you

Im, what it sounds like is your free play is completely gone and the clutch
ressure plate is pushing on the throwout bearing, nit just the return springs.
f so, unless you have a constant-contact type throwout bearing, it will soon
ail from always being under pressure and spinning at engine speeds. And its
ossible the excess pressure on the throwout will make the ckutch slip and burn
p the disc. Then you'd get to replace the entire clutch.
It may be possible to unbolt the slave bracket and the bellcrank arm, and pry
he arm and everything else sideways off the splined cross-shaft. But be
areful- the bellcrank arm is cast steel and will break if hit sideways or
ent.... and replacements are scarce & pricy. Pry only down near the shaft. Once
off, you can sort out whats mis-adjusted. Good luck- J Deryke
