Ditto to that suggestion, I covered the cable in heat shrink tubing and
inserted that into a plastic clear hose,
(because we raced in the rain back then ) it did have a loop in it as well.

as far as size, those I used were about the size of a 9mm bullet or maybe
bigger .45 ACP bullet.
