Thanks for reminding me; the following needs to be retold every few years.
Please note that since copper got expensive a decade ago, 'real' oilite is
hard to find. There are three types of "oilite" and the only viable one for
our bushings is Alloy 641 with 87-90% copper. The other two are so diluted
with iron powder they are MAGNETIC! Matter of fact, thats how I tell if a
bushing is real oilite or a far-east derivitive- with a small pocket magnet. The
iron-doped alloys- especially 'Super-Oilite' with 80% iron- will wear input
shafts worse than needle bearings. Also note- bushings for Chevys will fit
the ZF input shaft nose, but needs a ring adapter to fit in the larger
Cleveland crank recess- about 15 minutes work with a 6" lathe and some scrap
steel or aluminum. In 70,000 miles, I've changed bushings three times so far.

I get my real bronze bushings from Summit Racing- ask for one made by
Lakewood Industries. And check it with a magnet. FWIW- J DeRyke
