[DeTomaso] (Was Pilot Bushing Won't Budge) - Now THAT'SIncreddible!!

Is that a sealed bearing or an open bearing? If it is sealed, do not grease.
If it is open I would make sure that the bearing is well greased but I would
not put a big gob of grease in the pocket. If it puts pressure on the
bearing, it will cause heat and premature bearing failure.

WOW, that is amazing. I packed the space with grease, found a socket that
fit the space, packed it and put the 1/2" extension on it. It didn't come
right away, but after many good strokes with a 2 lb hammer, out she came.
So yes, it does work on the remains of a needle bearing.

Now, I have a new needle bearing pilot from Quella. Does it need to be
packed, or are these pre-greased? Should I leave some grease I the pocket
behind the bushing to help things last longer?

Thanks again all, we're moving in the right direction.

I would think the TP and grease method work better on the bronze bushing
then on the remains of a pilot bearing's outer race that is probably damaged
from the puller. My money is still on the chisel
