[DeTomaso] Pantera Roller with V6 from 87 GN

Using one of those little Buick V6's you could probably pack it in the front trunk and add a hood scoop, then run it through a C6 Corvette transmission/transaxle :>)

The ZF is a very compact package and is only around 9.2" from flywheel to center of drive shafts, even if you gain some forward movement with the V6 I don't think it will be enough for a conventional transmission with drive shaft and differential. IMO you are stuck with using a transaxle if you want to stay mid engined. Take a look at some of the racing transaxles popular in the off road world which can withstand a lot of abuse e.g Albins, X-TRAC, Quaife, modified Porsche etc. Automatic and sequential versions are available, but I doubt any manufacturer will rate for 1000 HP and none of the options will be under the ZF's $12K price tag, even a beefed up Porsche transaxle will set you back $15K done properly.
