I had a cracked windshield professionally-fixed once. The guy put a blanket 
on the hood, got in the pssenger seat, lifted his legs and two kicks spread 
all the glass on the hood. He said, 'hey- it was already broken so who 
cares how it looks afterwards....'   Sage advice- and the gasket was reuseable.
