[DeTomaso] Rust - does it go away?

A spray of used motor oil and diesel does very good, but it needs to be resprayed often      .  In response to this I was totaly suprized to see my friends broken cast crankshaft outside a week after is was out of the engine covered in surface rust. I would have thought the engine oil would have protected it longer.  I do paint and collision work. I can slow down surface rust, when it makes a hole, you have to cut around it, way around, also. "Rust never sleeps"  Neil Young lyric.....Acid etch, or epoxy primer makes a good "hold out"  laquer primer absorbs moisture. Bill
