Slight correction, and I appreciate the thought, but that gorgeous Grp 4
with the side mount mirrors wasn't mine (damn it ;-)). I just pulled the
pic from PI Motorsports Cars for Sale.

I'm glad Garth brought this up. Mike Thomas's car was the first I saw with
the side mounted mirrors. I think it looked great, is probably much more
effective from a standpoint of aerodynamics and offers a much better rear
view on both sides. ( it also looks much more exotic , like a race car) it
is reminiscent of the Maserati race car on the cover of the " La Dolce
Vita"poster or other race cars like Indy cars or Ferrari Testarosa with
their long mast mirrors. The good news is that Chris Difani and I are working
on a reinforcement kit that will be available to those who wish to mount
their mirrors on the side of the door. I'm sure most of you are familiar
with Chris's high quality work and attention to detail. This is guaranteed
to be an effective solution to this mounting approach. I will post details
and pricing as soon as it is done , tested and available.

Before mounting in this manner, be sure to reinforce the inside of the door
with a backing
plate of some kind. A couple of PCNC members displayed several sets of these
mirrors at
last Thursday night's meeting (two sets in boxes and one set mounted to
Trevor's car) and
someone (don't recall who) said they had seen them mounted on another
Pantera on the
sides of the door skin and reported that they caused panel flex as there was
no substance
to that part of the door to support the weight and wind-loading forces of
the mirrors against
the door skin. Just something to think about before you go drilling holes
on the sides of
your doors.

Cheers!

For those of you who considering mounting your Turbo Racing mirrors on the
side of the door instead of the top edge, here is a car with them that way.
They look OK, but stick out quite a bit.
