Fortunately we've not had bills like yours with such high amounts but it
was unnerving a year ago to open the copy of the bill that the hospital had
submitted to our insurance for my lung biopsy. That alone was $25,000 for 2
days. At that point we'd only needed x-rays, MRI, and blood tests other than
routine doctor visits so I had no idea what portion we might be responsible
for so it was downright scary. Fortunately out of all the bills, less than
$200 came out of our pocket for the anesthesiologist; I've thanked Jack many
times in the last few years for sticking out those years in the Navy
Reserves which gives us Tricare to pick up whatever Medicare doesn't cover. I
think I only had to pay a small portion of one Urgent Care visit other than
that; we're fortunate there as well as we have several urgent care facilities
all within 10 miles of us.
