The original welded-on tank clamp was lined with rubber glued onto its
inside. If you replace the undoubtably deteriorated original rubber with a strip of
tougher rubber- industrial belting for instance, not foam, and use something
like fully cured Gorilla Glue, a hot tank should not move once tightened in the
clamp. Most vendors sell their own billet aluminum clamps that do the job,
but most seem very heavy. For a positive stop, stainless steel brazes
beautifully so a pro welder should have no problem brazing a small stop-block on one
side to ensure the tank doesn't slip thru the clamp, and motorcycle 'Blue-Away'
polish will remove any weld-heat discoloration. Give it a try- J Deryke
