Also don't forget that not only good craftsmanship, quality preperations, but also quality materials used.  The materials make all the difference.  But quality materials also cost $$$.

I assume a major component to the cost of paint is prep - taking it down to the metal vs a light sanding and spray. How much that contributes to the overall cost would be good to know as well.
