[DeTomaso] DeTomaso up for sale

If you want to start manufacturing your own car, ie Noble, Pagani, etc, you
have two choices. Either start from scratch and build your own reputation,
or "buy" a history. The new Bugatti has nothing to do with the old marque.
Triumph motorcycles is the same. The new Maybach ditto. But it gets the
attention of the press more than "Joe's cars", which doesn't have much of a
ring to it. Headlines such as "DeTomaso rises from the grave, and better
than ever" sell more than "another entrepreneur has launched a new model".

With proper marketing twist, the type that DeTomaso didn't know how to
promote, you could refer to the Formula race cars.. Vallelunga. Guara.
Educate the public on DeTomaso's successes.

How much is this advantage worth? First you have to believe that it is an
advantage. Mike thinks it isn't, I think it is probably worth SOMETHING. But
someone a whole lot smarter than me has to decide how much this is worth.

It might have value as property in general then, but I don't see the
DeTomaso facilities as any sort of real factory. Why
else was the Pantera manufactured at Vignale? And I seriously doubt the
grounds has any modern machinery or tooling of any kind.

It may not be a big name, but it is a historic name. Buying old marque
names and reviving is in fashion right now
(Spyker, Maybach, Buggati, etc.). To me, the DeTomaso name and logo are the
real attraction here. The grounds are just
property. The right to the DeTomaso and Pantera names are the real value.

Don't forget, several groups have already tried to buy DeTomaso, but the
asking price was ridiculously high. So there is
legitimate interest in the marque.
