My recollection is that my stock early-style parking brake box cover fits 
flush against the metal support for the parking brake handle, i.e. there's no 
*extra* room to be gained.   The plastic ones have a shelf-like protrusion at the 
top that loses you about 1/2 inch, for no good reason that I can see?
