Those flashes are a sign of mis-timing.  Check your distirbutor for  
pin failure; check (haha not easy) timing chain for wear.

You should get specific instructions about this stuff, if not ask me  
when I have sometime.

He owns a top notch 1974 Pantera L and a couple of 1960's vintage
Corvettes, plus a couple of other classics cars. He has also purchased
and owned 3 or so Panteras BRAND NEW from the factory in the early
1970's.

He has done a lot of work on member's cars for the San Diego Pantera
Club for many years.

What is baffling to me as a novice owner is why the car can run
absolutely perfect for about 5 miles and then crap out.
