Art,

I can't offer comments on the Mini Cooper other than I've drive a friend's car once and was
overwhelmingly unimpressed with the performance (or lack of). Go-kart like reflexes,
cornered very flat, and had way more interior room than I would expect, but generally boring
  to drive.

What's your budget? If you want a fun economical car for your daily commute but don't
want to spend a lot of money, get a 92-98 BMW 3 series. I bought a 96 BMW 328i sedan
with a 5-speed last year for $5,000 and love it! I have been thoroughly impressed with the
car! Performance is great - accelleration, handling, braking. The car looks great, the interior
is like new, I have room for the entire family, it's fun to drive, and I get great gas mileage
(22.8 mpg avg city and 33 mpg avg hwy). Now I just need to resist the urge to trick out the
BMW with new springs, brakes, etc. Keep those dollars dedicated to the Pantera!

Anyway, if you want to spend a little more money, get a 99-03 BMW 3 series. Same great
handling and performance of my model, but better. And better looking too. Decent cars are
readily available in the $10-$20,000 price range.

  Cheers!
  Garth
