Toe-in is simply used to avoid toe out (for general alignment purposes).
You don't want toe-in you just absolutly need to avoid toe out. Toe out
can give you instablility. You toe-in enough such that the slop in the
steering systems and deformation of tires will not generate any toe out.
The sloppier the ball joints and eveything else the more toe in you need.
