[DeTomaso] Glue on mirror

The problem with bonding ANYTHING to glass is, the cleaning process before bonding is extremely fussy. And within seconds of proper chemical cleaning, a monomolecular layer of water from the atmosphere condenses on all glasses. This results in spotty coverage that may debond later if impacted just right.
'Proper' cleaning means that after going thru a multi-solvent scrubbing process, you do a water break test on the glass. This involves cascading DI water over the cleaned surface while its leaned at a 30-45 degree angle. What you're looking for is a continuous sheet of water flowing over the glass, without ANY individual beads. Then you dry the surface with alcohol and immediately bond your part to the glass.
That's why I, as a chemical engineer that has had to do such bonding in the aerospace industry, made up some poly windows and drilled holes in them for positive retention screws. Good luck-

I know a chemical engineer.  He helped me soften and release a 2-part epoxy from glass.
Worked like magic!!

Just let me know what kind of glue, and I will contact him.

All,

I’m in favor of any plan that doesn’t harm the glass. Michael’s plan may have merit assuming there was a means to restore them in the future.

The one I have that was all scratched up had a mirror glued on with a wild type of black glue that refuses to give up. The mirror broke off leaving the base stuck. I spent some time with a hacksaw trying to carefully cut it off, and gave up about halfway through as the guy who said he wanted the glass changed his mind.

It was hard work!
