[DeTomaso] Glue on mirror

I've had the Omni mirrors glued to my unetched glass windows for decades, never a problem until we hit the passenger side mirror while working on the car and knocked it loose (it stayed on after someone walked right into it). I had them professionally glued on by an auto glass shop that had the right products and procedures for attaching mirrors to glass. Rather than take a chance, I carefully pulled the mirror off and drove again to an auto glass shop and had it reinstalled. I'm not worried about it unless someone walks into it again! And, I've been past 130 mph a few times myself...

All,

I’m in favor of any plan that doesn’t harm the glass. Michael’s plan may have merit assuming there was a means to restore them in the future.

The one I have that was all scratched up had a mirror glued on with a wild type of black glue that refuses to give up. The mirror broke off leaving the base stuck. I spent some time with a hacksaw trying to carefully cut it off, and gave up about halfway through as the guy who said he wanted the glass changed his mind.

It was hard work!

They never failed and I was able to VERY carefully remove them for a restoration. The glass was not scratched. I’d go with some like type of adhesive and a careful cleaning/degreasing first.
