[DeTomaso] Cleveland vs Windsor Distributor

Hi Michael,
I have that distributor on my Cleveland.
I first ordered the Holley Hyperspark distributor to go with my Sniper EFI, but found it was approximately 4" taller than the stock distributor and would NEVER fit under the stock engine screen. I called their tech no-support department to inquire if they had another shorter distributor, even for a different make but with a .531" shaft (figuring I could have the mounting flange machined down if necessary) and all he said was, "No. There are no other options." Thankfully my Pantera friends are smarter than Holley techs.
A fellow PCNC member told me about the low-profile distributor used on late 70's Ford F-150's with 351W's and that it had the same mounting flange as the Cleveland and the same 0.531 shaft diameter, but just needed a Cleveland gear.
So I bought the Holley Dual Sync distributor, changed the gear, and installed it into my Pantera. I did find that the distributor body is WIDER than the stock (and my former Mallory) distributor and would not seat because it ran into the forward runner on my Blue Thunder intake manifold, so it necessitated a change to a single plane intake (which was already planned for my Sniper EFI).
Cheers!
Garth

The new Holley/MSD 565-210 Dual Sync distributor is tall enough to get
uncomfortably close
to the 8 stack fuel rails, injectors and fuel lines. Holley makes a
low-profile distributor for the 351W. Tech says the bodies are the
same dimensions and just a change to a larger Cleveland gear would be
all that's needed. I don't have a 351W distributor around to compare
sizes, shaft diameter and length etc.
Any thoughts?
