Hey MIke
Interesting, I have the Vader 4x6 headlight with Hella Glass Housing on
my Car. Have been looking for LEDs for a while, The LED bulbs I tried
didn't fit the Hella Housing. So instead of trying to make New Tech fit
the Old Tech, I bought a Pair of 4x6 LED Seal Beam lights from Auxbeam.
Should get them tomorrow. They don't look Original, and that's OK, as I
not so much in to Original with 4x6 Headlights.

Last year, driving the ALFA home from the fabulous Snowball after party
was made even more stressful than the usual nervousness of trying to
not get crushed on I-80 by an SUV ... because my headlights were
unacceptably feeble.
The car already had relays in the headlight circuit. But the plexiglass
covers made me worry that my typical approach to this problem - Cibie
E-Codes with high output bulbs - would run into heat dissipation
problems. I looked at various LED H4 bulbs and didn't like any of them
- not the least because they pretty much all depend on a small fan to
cool the driver, and we're back to heat dissipation problems.
At some point last year, Holley/Morimoto released their "looks like a
sealed beam but is actually a modern LED assembly" RetroBright
headlight. Available in 7" and 5-3/4" and 4x6". Available in cool white
and period-correct warm white and yellow(!). No fan, just a big
heatsink off the back.
They are not cheap, but neither are E-codes.
They fit easily into the (fairly shallow) headlight buckets.
The look like sealed beams.
They are a wonderful improvement - during last night's drive down 80
from the fabulous Snowball after party, I didn't once feel that I was
outdriving my headlights.
(I've also replaced pretty much all of the glimmering incandescent
running lights with colored LEDs in an attempt to be seen at night.
superbrightleds.com has a really wide variety of styles and bases now.)
aaa
YMMV,
Mike
