[DeTomaso] harmonic balacners

All,

I scribed a TDC mark on my flywheel with matching mark inside the bell housing inspection opening (verified dtc with dial indicator but could use a cheap spark plug style TDC finder tool). Then use an adjustable timing light to take any data needed. So much easier to look at timing this way. Also, balancer rings slip/rotate over time, but the flywheel and bell housing are pinned in place.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Regards,
George

Can't tell from your description or without a photo, but sounds like
the problem is with a bent timing pointer and not the balancer. The
pointer is sheet metal and is easily straightened. The balancer may be
damaged but I suggest getting someone knowlegable to look at your
       engine before replacing anything.

I have built a 427 small block and thinking that I should change out
the harmonic balance. The one that is on the engine now has been
damaged by the make shift pointer and hard to read. The balance now
       is
a flow dyne with makes completely around the circumference.
My question is what brand and type of balancer has others used? I
       will
need to find TDC and install a pointer that does not rub on the
         balancer.
