Can't tell from your description or without a photo, but sounds like the problem is with a bent timing pointer and not the balancer. The pointer is sheet metal and is easily straightened. The balancer may be damaged but I suggest getting someone knowlegable to look at your engine before replacing anything.

a flow dyne with makes completely around the circumference.
My question is what brand and type of balancer has others used? I will
need to find TDC and install a pointer that does not rub on the
balancer.
