Thanks, that makes sense, I wasn't sure what the recess diameter was.

The problem is the narrow recess the screw head must fit in. Fillister
head screws are actually purpose-designed for such applications.

The lens attachment screws used for the OEM Ford tail lights, the USA
red/red version and the European red/amber version, use M 4 x 25 mm
Phillips fillister head machine screws with a pitch of 0.7 mm.
The fillister head is a somewhat uncommon version. Its close cousins
are pan head and cheese head machine bolts, but the fillister head has
a smaller diameter.
