I've taken quite a few ball-joints out by the pounding method. The trick is to back up the opposite side of the upright with a chunk of steel while smacking the other side. But a few years ago I found that using an air hammer instead of a 2-lb ball-peen works so well, I've retired the hammer. Try it!

Mike - I am up to around 12,000 miles - the bushings on upper rear A
arm bushings look shot, lots of cracks -
I just tried removing the upper ball joint to remove the A arm -
forgetaboutit - that thing is really stuck on.
Holy smokes, I guess I have to heat it and beat the hell out of
it...thanks for helping.........
