[DeTomaso] "All metal" Shifter - Improvement?

I might NOT like the answers, But I'll ask any way.

Would there be an improvement replacing the trunnion rod support with a self-aligning "rod end" bearing?
In specific an 18mm low friction composite.    I got a pic of one in use years ago from someone.
(I'm currently in a major dispute with shop and this is one of many reasons)
