[DeTomaso] Cable Shifter - Improvement?

Mike,

Cable shifters are an answer to a question nobody ever asked. I can’t speak specifically about the SACC kit (which is undoubtedly of the highest quality), but generally cable shifters are vague and imprecise compared to an all-metal shifter.

Real GT40s are right hand drive and use a rod shifter like the Pantera and Mangusta. Replicas are often left hand drive (which is tragic in itself) and use a cable shifter. I’ve driven several of them and the ZF was nowhere near as precise as a Pantera. Significantly, the CEO of Superformance totaled his own GT40 because he blew a downshift coming off the freeway and went from 4th to 1st, locking up the rear wheels and spinning into a barrier at speed.

Why would you ever want that?

Mike
