[DeTomaso] Decklid Corner Bumpers

As part of the restoration I'm going to an electrically actuated Honda decklid release with by it's design centers the deck and should prevent side to side movement. That said, I still want to install the corner bumpers to prevent any possible damage to the paint from possible body movement, be it decklid or fenders, and minimize any lateral stress on the Honda latch mech.

I had my car at John's house quite a while back, and he noticed my decklid was not firmly against the bumpers. You need some pressure to prevent side-to-side movement.
My problem was the center latch. The studs were stripped out, so you couldn't tighten them enough to keep the latch where it needs to be.
In the interim, I added a few washers to get the nuts to clean threads, which allows the latch to be tightened. No more sideways movement.
On the downside, that was before I had it painted. I forgot to fix the studs before the paint. So, now I need to cut the studs out, weld in new ones, and try not to screw up the paint too much.
On the upside, I have about 4,000 miles like this, and the decklid hasn't moved.

I will install tabs in my decklid for the bumpers should I ever paint,
but for now I have a implemented a slightly less elegant solution.
Little pieces of 1/8" rubber glued in place. They work.
I hope the pictures work.

All,
Like John, I have the belief the deck lid latch redesign was intended
to more positively locate the decklid in order to prevent paint
chipping due to its movement into the fenders.
Whether the deck lid is moving sideways and hitting the fenders or the
fenders are somehow flexing into the decklid, chipped paint is a common
problem in this area.
Bumpers mounted as shown in my previously posted photos will prevent
panel to panel contact and its subsequent paint chipping.
Downside of this approach is it requires welding to the decklid which
in all likelihood would damage decklid paint if done on a finished car.
