You were running the Dual friction clutch disc and interestingly enough the "Stock" Organic side stayed in place while the performance disc side overheated and disenigrated. McCloud also has a performance friction dual carbon sided disc for higher performance engines. All the Centerforce units come with a dual friction clutch disc similar to the one that failed in your McLeod unit. We like the Centerforce for stock replacements, and The McLeod double disc RST system for higher performance machines. It is a softer yet stronger clutch system which has undergone many improvements over the last 20 years and I can strongly recommend it now.
Your oil cooler is hooked up with flex hoses? Put a pad on the rear quarter panel, unbolt the cooler and flip it over the quarter to allow room to pull the transaxle our to disengage the clutch disc. Transaxle R&R should be a 4 hour job, that have known to be done with friends with help in hotel parking lots before breakfast sometimes in Monterey before the races start. (LOL)

The friction material actually disintegrated and was all over the place
- mostly blown out the inspection window at the top.A It was a lot of
friction material -- so it looked and ran fine until all of sudden it
didn't.A Since it is Asa Jay's original clutch, it served its life
well.A A
With as much HP/Torque we are running, we surely needed it to be a more
regular maintenance item.A We had already replaced it with the
Centerforce for the Cleveland, and then we pulled the Cleveland and
installed the Clevor, we went with the motor-builder had assembled on
the CLEVOR -- which was the old McCleod.A I don't think we intended it
to be in there very long.A But, the CLEVOR is running well and suiting
these early races, so we left it in -- too long,A obviously!A A
BTW - we still haven't figured out how to remove the transaxle assembly
to clear theA coolers without completelyA unbolting and lifting the
motor.A I know it is supposedly done, but we can't figure it out.A A

Looks like the McLeod I put in back in 2012.A Looks like friction
material completely wore off one side.A All the springs are still
in place.A
You do know that the friction material on a pantera clutch disk is
slightly thinner than average?A Racing as hard as you and Tony do,
it may be a good idea to check it often.A Convenient to have an
inspection hole at the top of the bell housing.
:)
What did you replace it with?
