[DeTomaso] Intake carb base question.

I did mine w/out redoing the studs. The angle difference isn't so much that it matters.

I used a 1" plastic spacer, and I cut it with a sander. I know - red neck - but it worked. He who has no mill, makes do with sander. Ancient red neck secret.

On mine I just clamped the manifold onto the table of the mill and
milled from the low edge to the back. I then drilled out the mounting
stud holes and tapped for a 1/4" pipe thread. Screwed in solid brass
pipe plugs and milled to match the intake surface then drilled and
tapped 5/16" coarse threads for the studs. Use a carb base gasket to
locate hole centers. No need to take any measurements in the car but be
sure to check clearance for the throttle linkage, may have to mill a
notch on driver side to get clearance depending on what manifold you
       start with.

I had a discussion with shop building 5177 last week. (I've lost
interest and relying his abilities.) Progress is VERRY slow
The engine builder that abandoned the project a couple years ago had
found "the" ford aluminum intake, in his opinion, better than BT. He
was onboard about making carb base level and re doing studs.
Coming to now. The engine is supposed to be complete EXCEPT, builder
didn't do any thing to intake. During last week discussion with car
shop, he stated he want to "get measurements with engine in" (makes
       no
         sense to me)
So, to my questions and request for info.
Wouldn't the machine shop instructions be mill carb base parallel
       with
head flanges (then Heli coil studs to be square to machined carb
       base.
Is there anything I am missing? Would anyone know of a pantera
shop/dealer my builder could talk to confirm the intake NEEDS to have
the carb base level. AND can be done without taking measurements in
       the
         car.
Or some good replies I could forward him
