[DeTomaso] NPC: Maserati Kyalami - Rebadged/Repowered Longchamp?

I have a Maserati Quattroport front suspension assembly. I acquired it to look at swapping the 1.25" thick Maser rotors and calipers onto my Pantera. It is amazing how very similar it is to the Pantera suspension. Obviously designed by the same person(s). Several small differences made the swap impractical, the weight (65 lbs!) also being a major consideration.
I didn't recall anything special about the upper ball joints but I thought I'd take another look for these 'toothed' retainers and see if I might retrofit them to my Pantera.
I can be see without any doubt that both the top and bottom ball joints are identical between the Maser and the DeTomaso, including the means of clamping the top ball joint. There are no 'teeth' on the Maserati assembly, lots of shims notched for easy installation, but otherwise camber is maintained the same way on each.

Roland,

You definitely know more than all the rest of us put together! Thanks!

First of all Maserati modified the chassis and DeTomaso adoptet ist for the Longchamp and the Deauville. The Quattroporte uses a longer chassis, than the Deauville. The Maserati engeneers where so clever to make the main driveshaft in two parts with a middle bearing. That eleminates the vibrations on the rear axle nearly 100%. All the electrical system in the Maserati is engeneered by Jaeger in France and not Veglia from Italy. Wiring loom, conectors etc. all ae different. Little example for the Maserati cleverness, all Pantera, Longchamp and Deauville owners struggle with the unwilled moving of the upper balljoints. US vendors came up with an adapter on the a-arms, Maserati used shims with teeth toeleminate the movement. On the more heavier Quattroporte it was never ever a problem. There are so many uncounted differnces between these cars, that not many people know of. Driving those is like seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger dancing compared to the dancing of Fred Astaire....
