The 450S is a cool brute!
1962 was the first year of the climax v8 with snake exhausts and 4 webers.
It's easy to tell pre-62 from the crappy climax 4s, not so easy to tell
post-62 until the climax got FI.

Byron showed me a few of the cars around the shop, including a 1962 (?) Lotus formula 1 car, 1958 Ferrari Testa Rosa, 1955 Mercedes 300 SLR Roadster and a Maserati 450S. The 450S was having a good bit of work done and most of the front body work was off of the car. The sight of the huge motor in that little aluminum body and tubular frame was quite a sight. Bryon showed me a little 'spy glass', a little round pieces of glass about 1-1.5" in diameter, in the leading edge of the left rear inner fender just under the drivers left elbow. He would look through this spy glass to check the remaining tire tread to know when he needed to pit for tires.
