[DeTomaso] Curious about bidding on the BAT Pantera last week

Ken,

Apparently the car was rear-ended badly enough to damage the rear panel, both quarter panels, the decklid, and the roof. And the total for ‘repairing’ all that damage was 45 hours of labor, including all bodywork and paint work.

Anybody who has paid for quality work knows that’s a laughably low amount. It was apparently a Maaco-type outfit that did the work, and the results showed it. The right rear of the body was still bent.

This car was a decent driver, and the high bid should have easily purchased the car IMHO. If somebody wanted a perfect car they would have to spend a bunch to rectify the car’s bodywork issues, and given that there was a stated mismatch of the paint up front, reasonably that would mean a full repaint. So figure $25k or so.

But it seems to be a car that easily could be enjoyed as-is, too....
