[DeTomaso] NPC Harbor Freight jack stands recall

I have been using this low-rise lift for a couple of decades and am very happy with it. I just park a car over it normally.  It is easy to move around with the wheels at one end. With the Pantera I place it as far rearward as possible and use lumber and the included rubber blocks to support the car by the "frame."It has metal stops that support the lifted part at certain levels, so after it is up you can release the hydraulic pressure and it stays securely where it is.
I like the fact that it spreads the load over a large surface area of the garage floor and is extremely stable

I did that when I initially set up the QJ, then tested it in the air by leaving the floor jack just about a 1/2" below the cross member.  I put my weight on the back of the car from a step ladder and it did not move.  The second block I put under the side jackpoint is about 8-10" aft of that point, to adds a lot more support.

Mike,

FYI because of the rear weight bias, when lifting using those points I always position a floor jack as a fifth point, under the rearmost crossmember, if I will be climbing into the engine bay. It’s stable enough without it until you add the weight of a person climbing in, and then it can get a bit sketchy....
