[DeTomaso] Pantera Won't Start but has fuel, spark, good timing etc. Baffled and need Advice

Years ago my ignition switch failed and I needed to drive the car to a Navy ship reunion. No time to get a new one so, I took one from a 69 Ford pickup .... and it fits in the correct spot .... I got a new OEM switch later, but have never installed it. I put a relay in to take load off switch. The steering lock function is no longer there. But switch has functioned for years ... If fails in some out of state location I can walk into any good auto parts store and buy a replacement ( for under $20.  or so ).

Bud #3400 ( Drive it like there is no tomorrow -- for there may not be ! )

Can you be much more specific about what your car actually does?  You say it “won’t start” But is that actually true?  Does it just crank and crank and crank? Or is the problem that it will start but won’t run?  That’s what most of us seem to believe now. 

Don’t change the whole ignition switch if you don’t have to. Those switches are relatively rare and precious. You have an electrical problem. Change the electrical portion only, if necessary. If you don’t want to buy a new electrical portion, swap it over from your extra switch assembly.

   Navy ship reunion. No time to get a new one so, I took one from a 69
   Ford pickup .... and it fits in the correct spot .... I got a new OEM
   switch later, but have never installed it. I put a relay in to take
   load off switch. The steering lock function is no longer there. But
   switch has functioned for years ... If fails in some out of state
   location I can walk into any good auto parts store and buy a
   replacement ( for under $20.  or so ).
   Bud #3400 ( Drive it like there is no tomorrow -- for there may not be
   ! )

   Thatas what most of us seem to believe now.
   Donat change the whole ignition switch if you donat have to. Those
   switches are relatively rare and precious. You have an electrical
   problem. Change the electrical portion only, if necessary. If you donat
   want to buy a new electrical portion, swap it over from your extra
   switch assembly.
