[DeTomaso] Car just quits

Fred, when an engine 'just quits', much of the time it's electrical and has nothing to do with the carb (or EFI). I have had the exact thing happen with other cars and in both cases, it was a defective ignition coil. Inside the OEM can-of-oil coil the primary windings had separated so when hot, expansion separated the windings and cut the voltage. Sitting dead in the road for a minute or so, the coil windings cooled, touched and the car started and ran as before. Suggest looking at the ignition system.
Good luck- J Deryke

I have the exhaust problem fixed after all your help. Now, on two
occasions, I pulled off the highway and the car just died at the stop
sign. I waited a minute, cranked it without using the gas pedal.
Nothing. Stepped on the accelerator and it started. After that, no
problem. A faulty carburetor? Please email your thoughts and, as
usual, thanks for your insight. Fred
