[DeTomaso] Battery Cable Ends, OK to solder?

I am making all new cables and found the attached crimp tool for under $20.
If you have not seen these before;
1. assemble cable and end.
2. place in crimp tool.
3. strike with large hammer.
4. shrink wrap optional.
May or may not be helicopter rated. :o)

Good comment - 'cept I think most wires are copper - heating copper, unless I am all wet here - can only make it softer. Copper just doesn't harden readily. But, if it does, copper will return to its original, soft condition if heated hot enough.
Overall, honestly, soldering battery cables is a very good idea. One of my bigger frustrations is when I find crimped connections that have let go - let's see - on our XKE, Pantera, and, in a big way, on our Superformance Daytona coupe.
Unless of course you are a helipoopter mechanic, like the one who used to be on this forum. Then, well, good luck.

If I recall soldering automotive wires makes them brittle and less tolerant to the vibrations inherent in automobiles and prone to more electrical failures. Probably not something the automobile industry wants. I would venture to guess the cost of soldering each and every connection would be labor intensive and cut into their bottom lines. Paul
