[DeTomaso] AC

It is most likely an R12 system judging by the fittings, first thing is put a set of R12 gauges on it and tell me what the pressures are. Some one could have contaminated it with some of that popular 134 doped propane called Freeze 12 back in the day, but none the less lets see if you have at least 150 PSI with the air running to see if you might have a salvageable R-12 system to begin with. If you can’t pump at least 150 PSI it may be a long expensive road to cold air again. It will start to cool at 175 PSI, but that could be 3-4 pounds of R-12 if you can find it at $100 a pound. We can get you converted to R-134 with a good compressor for $400-$600 depending on a few factors.

So you have a modern rotary compressor, where lacking information in prior discussion we (or I at least) assumed your system was a stock style York compressor. If I recall you mentioned R12 in previous requests, but have you checked the system has not been fully retrofitted to R134a?

Is the system charged currently and you want to 'top off' or are you filling a leaked out system? You should evacuate and pull a vacuum on the system and verify it holds before assuming an empty system is good. In all honesty I think you'd do better taking it to a local AC shop to have it properly evacuated, tested and refilled, it's not as simple as just plugging a can of Freon on the suction port.

Hello,

Which port should I use to add Freon? SOC or DLS, as they are labeled.

Thanks,

Trip

Your R-12 gauges should read:

High pressure 200 @ idle to 225 @ 3000 Rpm

Low Pressure about 30 psi

The York Compressor has ¼ inch square shut off valves, they should be in the open posistion

The System will take up to 4 pounds of Freon

the lift made that much more doable – there are 2 ports, do I just use one? How much pressure

The exact location depends on a number of factors, but normally it is accessed from under the Pantera or thru the Right Rear wheel well by removing the splash shield, to the front right of the engine to the rear of the firewall. Do you still have the R-12 reciprocal black YORK Compressor, or has it been changed to a newer Silver Rotary type compressor? Then we need to examine the rotary conversion for labels and /or available ports for identification. If you get this far call me for part 2 identifications. Larry Stock 1-800-DeTomaso (338-6627)
