[DeTomaso] AC

All,

FWIW the car in question is an Amerisport GT5-S. I think those still used R12.

I second Julian’s motion. AC is specialized work that requires special tools and a thorough knowledge of the theory and practice behind the system. It’s not like putting air in a tire. If you aren’t a pro, take the car to a pro.....

Mike (definitely not a pro, who will one day seek out a pro to install AC in his and Lori’s Panteras....)

You should evacuate and pull a vacuum on the system and verify it holds before assuming an empty system is good. In all honesty I think you'd do better taking it to a local AC shop to have it properly evacuated, tested and refilled, it's not as simple as just plugging a can of Freon on the suction port.

Do you still have the R-12 reciprocal black YORK Compressor, or has it been changed to a newer Silver Rotary type compressor? Then we need to examine the rotary conversion for labels and /or available ports for identification. If you get this far call me for part 2 identifications. Larry Stock 1-800-DeTomaso (338-6627)
