[DeTomaso] Interesting Hall Pantera header oddity

I remember my Hall Big Bores having rectangular holes. I put them on in 2001 and never
had any problems! They sound great. I had a mild engine rebuild with nothing crazy.
Engine runs perfect!

Subject: [DeTomaso] Interesting Hall Pantera header oddity
Guys,
You may recall that a few weeks ago I put out a call for two pairs of used Hall Pantera headers on behalf of a pair of local owners. Two of you stepped up first and both sets have been delivered to me. They are both intended for standard 351C engines, and yet they have numerous notable differences.
Last week I showed the header inlet ports in comparison to stock Pantera manifold ports. Both are perfectly round which is odd considering the cylinder head exhaust ports are rectangular:

What is interesting to me is that the second set of Hall headers that arrived today, which in theory are supposed to be the same, are markedly different.

Although dimensionally they are the same, the second set has properly shaped flanges. What is most surprising is that they have 1 3/4-inch primaries and a 2 3/16-inch collector while the first ones have much larger 2-inch primaries and yet smaller 2 1/16-inch collectors.
I find this odd in the extreme. I believe the vast majority of the thousands of Hall headers out there have the larger pipes and smaller collectors. Larry Stock has a whole bunch of these rattling around in his shop. Perhaps we can convince Larry to share what he can learn about the ones in his inventory?
Dan Jones—considering that these are primarily being used on relatively mild engines, often through stock mufflers, which ones would you guess are superior?
Mike
